Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua, México
Alex Jurado, born Raul Alejandro Jurado Domínguez and known simply as such, is a third-generation artisan and ceramist hailing from Mata Ortiz. His work is distinctly rooted in the cultural heritage of the Paquimé indigenous people of Chihuahua.
Starting his artistic journey at the age of eight under the guidance of his maternal grandmother, Alex initially honed his skills polishing small pieces. By fifteen, he was creating his own original works, embracing both traditional Mata Ortiz techniques and developing his unique style. Today, he is a renowned Mexican artisan celebrated for his mastery of both classic and contemporary ceramics. His notable versatility drives him to constantly innovate and expand the boundaries of traditional forms. His achievements include 14 awards, among them the prestigious National Ceramics Award in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco. In 2016, he was selected as one of ten Mexican artisans to represent his country in France at the second annual French-Mexican convention for young entrepreneurs in cultural and creative fields.
Through his artistry, Alex Jurado aims to preserve his cultural heritage and contribute to the global landscape of artesanía.
For Heirlome’s Resort 2026 collection, Alex designed a print in the traditional Mata Ortiz style, a style he aspires to introduce to an international audience.
